bkdsccbarslick-copy1I wanted to introduce you to B Kids Nutritious Snack Bars. They come from the makers of the Balance Bars. My kids don’t always eat as well as they should, but it is important to me what goes in those little tummies. It’s nice finding more and more options for kids that are filled with the vitamins and nutrients they need, and the B Kids Bars are just that.

Pros:  These are made with whole grain, wheat and rice. When I am doing my grocery shopping, I actually have become very conscious about buying products with whole grain. You may what a whole grain is and why it is so important. A whole grain consists of three parts including: bran, germ and endosperm. When a grain has all three of these, and is whole, is it much more vitamin rich and actually contains antioxidants. Whole grains have been shown to reduce heart disease, cholesterol, and even cancer. So why not start young in teaching our kids that it’s important to have whole grains, and to buy them often for them.

B Kids Bars are also a great source of:

  • Iron – to help deliver oxygen to the brain and body
  • Zinc – to help brain and body cells grow and develop
  • Choline – the help the brain send messages
  • Vitamins B1, B6, B12 – to help support your kid’s healthy nervous system

I like that these bars don’t sacrifice taste at all.  They come in peanut butter and chocolate chip and are really delicious. My boys really like them.  It actually has more fiber too than the leading granola bar, which aids with digestion.

The packaging is really cute and colorful which really appeals to kids.  You may not think that packaging and advertising affects children’s choices, but take them to the store when they are 2 or 3 and see where their preferences lie.

Cons: The chocolate chip crumbles somewhat easy and your kids can make a mess with it if you aren’t watching.  I also wish that these had a bit more protein.  They have 2 grams, which is a great improvement from other bars, but I find my boys are fuller from a snack longer if it has more protein.

The Bottom Line:  A delicious snack for kids, made with whole grain.
