Kota PlayskoolBack at Christmas time, we saw a commercial on tv for Kota the dinosaur by Playskool.  Chandler loved the commercial, so we went to You Tube and looked it up.  We watched it over and over, and Chandler walked around talking about Kota and singing the song to the commercial.  I love the full size Kota and am hoping to be able to get one for the boys sometime because I know that they love it.  I didn’t realize until recently that Kota has a band of little pals.  One of these includes the Kota Hatchling.  When this toy came in the mail, Chandler was thrilled.  He couldn’t believe he had a little Kota of his own.

Pros:  This is a really cute, interactive toy.  As you brush your hand along Kota’s back, he moves his head around and makes fun dinosaur sounds.  My boys love to pet him and see this little triceratops come to life.  At just under 6 inches tall and 8 inches long, he’s the perfect toy to take along.  His fur is really soft and the fabric wipes up nicely.  Another fun aspect; if you touch his tongue he wakes up and starts roaring again.  One thing that I really appreciate and any other mom would as well is the “off” button.  His roaring is really cute but it’s nice to be able to to turn it off when you are somewhere where your child needs play with a quiet toy.  The recommended age for this toys 36 months -6 years, but my 16 month old also loves this toy.  There are no small parts for him to choke on and he gets the concept of petting his back.  It’s well made, as Kota has been thrown around and beat up on a bit.  But then again, that’s expected in a house of little boys.  He still works perfectly though. For a sneak peak at Kota, watch the video below:

There are other hatchlings available including a T-rex, Stegosaurus, and Pteradactyl.  Chan has been eyeing the t-rex and likes to play with him when we go to the store, so he might be saving for that. :)

Cons:  I think it would make Kota more interactive if he opened and closed his mouth.  The on and off button is also a bit hard to get to.  You have to open the velcro closure on his tummy and pull the fabric back a bit to see what you are doing since there is an on, off, and try me function.  It would have been nice if it had been placed in the middle.  I guess you could call me picky, but I’m just being honest, right?  Pretty minor con though.

The Bottom Line:  Fun interactive toy that is the perfect size to play with at home or take along.  Soft and good quality, washes up well.
