Leapfrog dvd Review
Leapfrog is great when it comes to teaching kids. They teach by association which I think is an awesome method. I remember taking a Medical Terminology class in college. There were SO many prefixes, roots, and suffixes we had to learn. Our professor would show us these silly videos to help us remember and memorize. Although I took the class almost 7 years ago, I am amazed how much I still remember because of this method.
Pros: We were able to review the Leapfrog Letter Factory and Word Factory dvds. We actually have had the Letter Factory for almost a year, and I am so impressed with the results. This video is from just over a year ago. Chandler knew all of his letter sounds at age 2 thanks to leapfrog.
About the dvd:
Teaches letters, phonics and listening skills. A wild adventure to the Letter Factory with popular LeapFrog characters Leap, Lily and Tad. Led by wacky Professor Quigley, Tad joins Js jumping on trampolines and Ks practicing karate kicks as new letters learn their sounds. Fun songs will have kids singing letter sounds in no time.
The songs are fun and easy to learn on this dvd, and it is very engaging. I actually found myself engaged in watching this video. Talking Word Factory is a great extension of the letter factory. Chandler is now learning to put small words together because of Word Factory. A lot of the same melodies used in letter factory are also used in word factory, so it seems that kids almost immediately feel comfortable with learning new things because of the familiar tunes.
Cons: The songs are very repetitious and repeat over and over. It can get a bit annoying to me, but of course Chandler loves it. And I also understanding that repetition is one of the best ways to learn.
The Bottom Line: Educational dvds that are a wonderful aid in helping children learn letters, phonics, and how to put words together.
