natural dentistThe Natural Dentist is a line of natural toothpaste and mouthwash.  The line was created by a dentist with his patients in mind.  We received the whitening toothpaste, the kid’s toothpaste, and 2 different mouthwashes.  I’ve been using The Natural Dentist for over a month now, and here’s how it all panned out:

Pros: I don’t have the world’s best teeth. I had braces for 3 1/2 years, have had almost every tooth in my mouth filled (or so it seems), and am a mouth breather, so I am prone to sore and swollen gums. I also have really sensitive teeth, and get canker sores in a regular basis. I had a canker sore so severe last summer that I couldn’t eat without almost crying and it hung around for over 3 weeks. After doing some research, I found out that SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) can cause canker sores. I was excited to try The Natural Dentist as it is SLS free. I’m excited to report that I have 0 canker sores in the last month since I started using it. I am switching over to The Natural Dentist as I hate dealing with cankers. The paste prevents against acid erosion, which is great for me because I love acidic sweets and fruits, and has no artificial ingredients.

naturaldent1I mentioned that I have sensitive teeth. I don’t think it helps that I’ve bleached my teeth in the past and I use a toothpaste that has bleach. The Natural Dentist whitens teeth without bleach so you don’t get the sensitivity you do with other toothpastes.

I thought it was ironic that this toothpaste makes my teeth actually squeak when I am brushing them. Getting them “squeaky clean” I guess. But really, I like how clean my teeth feel after using this paste, and it’s great at getting rid of plaque.

The cap is connected, which is nice so you don’t lose it. I hate lost toothpaste caps :)

As for the kid’s toothgel, it is just as good. I’ve been trying to get Chandler to go from a training toothpaste to something with flouride since he’s getting older. This is a perfect transitionary toothpaste, and has no harsh chemicals, no artificial dyes, sweeteners, or preservatives. It has fun sparkles in it and has a great berry/bubblegum tasting flavor. The actual flavor is berry blast, but I think it tastes a bit like bubblegum too, yum!

Lastly is the mouthwash. It is great for protecting teeth and gums and doesn’t contain alcohol. Instead it has natural ingredients such as aloe vera gel and echinacea to name a few.naturaldent21

Cons:The toothpaste is peppermint twist and doesn’t have as strong as a peppermint taste that I am used to. I actually didn’t care for the taste at first, but it has slowly grown on me. I don’t get as fresh as a feel as I normally do with other toothpastes either.
I’m also not too fond of the packaging. It’s the type of container that bounces back to it’s original shape once you are done with it, unlike other toothpastes that keep their shape, thus keeping the toothpaste close to the opening. When I got towards the end of the bottle, I had to work at it to get all of the paste out.
I prefer a gel when I brush my teeth and the whitening toothpaste is a paste. I’d love to see The Natural Dentist come out with a gel.

I’m also not a huge fan of the taste of the mouthwash. It is a bit bitter and I have to remind myself of the benefits when I am using it.

The Bottom Line:An all natural toothpaste, SLS free, and has great benefits. I just ordered The Natural Dentist Orange Zest Paste from drugstore.com. Yum!
