You can make thisI’m not particularly great at sewing. I took a home ec class in 9th grade and that was about it. However, I have a mom that is an excellent seamstress. When I got this pattern from You Can Make This for Personalized Pillows, I thought they would make great accent pillows for my boys. As I don’t sew, I figured I would take this project up to my mom’s and have her help me do it. We ended up making a pillow for Chandler, and it turned out darling! Here’s how it went down:

The pattern is an e-book. This is nice as you can print it out from your computer and have a backup on your computer or wherever you save it. It is easy to read with lots of clear pictures. This is a great feature for novice sewers who have some background and can do basic stitches. Some patterns assume that you already know what they are talking about. You Can Make This has small tips that assist you along the way. In this particular pattern, every single letter in the alphabet is included in the template; upper AND lowercase. The project can be very cost effective, if you use material you already have on hand. We went through my mom’s scraps and didn’t spend any money out of pocket. We found blues and greens to coordinate it with Chandler’s bedding, and I can’t wait to get it home to put on his bed.

Cons:
This project is more time consuming than you may think. I thought at first we’d be able to have it done in 1-2 hours. It took us more like 3-4 hours, using a sewing machine. If you don’t have scrap fabric on hand, it can be even more time consuming and expensive to go to the store to get fabric. It was also 27 pages to print out which is quite a bit of paper and ink. I’d love to see them have the option to buy it already printed and have it shipped, for those who may not have a printer.
