Enfant Pediatric Vision Testing
Vision
How important is your eyesight to you? How important is your child’s eyesight? I think it is incredibly important. It helps you view and take in the world, and creates experiences and memories.
There is now a non evasive way to check for visual deficits in infants as young as 6 months old. It is known as The Enfant™ Pediatric VEP Vision Testing System and tests for disorders including amblyopia, optic nerve disorders, and refractive errors
About The Testing
As stated in a recent press release, here is more about the testing system:
The Enfant uses technology called Visual Evoked Potential (VEP), which evaluates the child’s response to an external stimulus along the entire visual pathway from the lens of the eye to the visual cortex of the brain. By using VEP, the Enfant is able to identify vision deficits that a physician might not otherwise detect during more conventional, subjective eye exams, such as eye charts. The Enfant system allows testing of much younger children, since it does not require a response from the patient.

Taking Action
Chandler had some developmental tests done when he was 2 as he was not speaking, and he had some sort of vision test done. It didn’t seem to be as extensive as this vision testing, so I’d love to have both of my boys tested. I hate to admit that neither of them have ever been to an eye doctor. After filling out an online request, I was sad to learn that this isn’t offered anywhere near me. I’m hoping that it will become available soon in my area, as I feel that pediatric eye exams are incredibly important. You can actually find doctors in your area here.
There’s also a great free quiz that you can take that gives you a general idea of your child needs to be tested. I’d urge you to go take it, it just takes a few minutes.
