New Baby on the Way?
When I was first expecting Chandler I knew I had so much to buy and was a bit clueless as to where to start. I remember one of my friends asking if I had all of my layette items, to which I asked, “What is a layette?” According to First Impressions, a layette is made up of all the soft pieces your newborn needs for his or her fist days and weeks. These include:
- 6-8 Footed Coveralls
- 1 Hooded Towel
- 1 Hat
- 4-6 Convertible Gowns
- 4-6 Blankets
- 1 Robe
- 4-6 pair of pants
- 3 Take me home sets
- 9-12 bodysuits
First Impressions, which can be found at Macy’s sent me this super cute layette set you see pictured to the right. Want to know what I thought?
Pros: The set is made of 100% cotton, which is super soft. I love that the layette has matching pieces and is available in yellow, khaki, and teal. It is machine washable. The fabrics stay nice after washing and have minimal piling. The bib has a snap closure which I prefer over velcro closures as velcro can get caught on hair and irritate the skin. First impressions also offers sizing from birth up to 24 months. These sets are also very affordable which is nice when you consider everything you have to buy for baby. This particular set retails for $19.98 which makes each piece just over $3.
Cons: The onesies shrink up a bit in length when you wash them. My boys were both quite long so this would mean they would outgrow the onesies faster. Washing in cold and letting them air dry can help solve this problem. I also wish that the line was tag free. I know that tags can irritate newborn skin, so I think this would be a nice improvement.
The Bottom Line: Super soft cotton layette line that coordinates together.
Price: $19.98
Where to Buy: Macy’s Online and In Store. (I didn’t see this particular set online, but they have others.)

I like that it has minimal piling. I hate when items get those little nasty balls on them. Cute set. Thanks for the giveaway.

I always thought Layette was just infant clothing… Didn’t realize it was a certain amount of certain things!! Huh!
[Reply]
I never knew that bibs that snap are better than velcro. I just hadn’t thought about velcro getting caught on hair and irritating the skin.

I learned that you need all those things for a newborn. (I’m expecting my first). That tags irritate their skin. That cotton is great for newborns. The washing, would’ve never thought of that. Yeah…I learned a lot!
[Reply]
I learned this set only costs $19.98! When I was reading the description, I expected it to be more like 49.98- such a pleasant surprise to see that it’s affordable!

I love that the layette is soft AND 100% cotton; easier on the newborn’s sensitive skin. The tags–I wonder if they can be removed or sewn down flat without damaging the clothing?? Thanks for the contest!

I have a new grandson. I have noticed the materials that clothes for him are made of and how things don’t last through washings. This would be something that would out last him.
