hplogo2To this day, I have always had extremely dry skin and hair.  I’m sure this comes from my mom as she has coarse hair and very dry skin as well.  I’ve also dealt with Keratosis Pilaris since I was young.  Keratosis Pilaris is basically bumpy skin that shows itself in red inflamed bumps.  Many bumps contain ingrown hairs that have coiled.  I have mostly dealt with this skin condition on the back of my arms and the tops of my thighs.  I was interested to find out that KP (Keratosis Pilaris) affects 50-80% of adolescents, and 40% of adults.  It is actually more common in women as well.  It is hereditary and found in persons with very dry skin or Vitamin A deficients.  I’ve used many different expensive creams including Glytone which isn’t cheap. I paid over $50 a few years back for just body wash and lotion, only to have it burn and irritate my skin even more.  When contacted by Skin Free I was interested to try their all natural products to see if it would help with my skin.

Pros: I was able to try out the Basic Four Gift Set.Basic Four

It includes:

  • Super Moisture Body Balm
  • After Shower Moisture Spritz
  • One Niaouli Butter Stick
  • Extra Moisturizing Soap

They are all Pharmacist formulated and Doctor recommended. They don’t have all of the additives that other bath and body products do and are great for delicate, sensitive, or very dry skin.
My favorite of the four is the moisture body balm. I love that I can look at it’s ingredient list and I know what every ingredient is. It’s nice to know what I am putting on my skin. I’ve been using the Body Balm after I shower and have noticed a huge difference in my skin. The back of my arms feel so soft and incredible, and this is the longest I’ve gone without noticing my KP.  I tried to show you how good the back of my arms looks right now, but I don’t know if the picture does it justice. (Maybe you should just stop by my house and feel how soft they are :) )  CIMG0491   Since my skin has shown such drastic improvement, I’m wondering if using lotions with additives has kept my KP around. This balm is also lasting a long time. I’ve had it for a month, use it daily on my entire body and I still have half the bottle left.
The after shower spritz feels much like the body balm only it is more of a liquid form. The soap works great, although I must admit I’m not much of a soap person. I think I’d probably be more likely to use the liquid soap although I haven’t tried it yet.
The butter stick is great for rough areas that need a little more attention like your elbows and feet.  It comes in a clear push up tube and is great to take along with you.
The set has a bit of a cocoa butter smell to it which I really like. I’m sure it’s from the blend of all of the natural ingredients.

Cons: I don’t like how the spritzer shoots out of the bottle. It is a straight stream and if you don’t aim just right, you are getting it all over the floor or other objects that are near.
I also appreciate the idea of the butter stick, but I don’t always remember to use it. The soap literally made my skin feel squeaky, but that’s how most soaps are for me and that’s why I prefer a body wash. If you use the body balm, don’t use a lot! The first few times I used the body balm, I used way too much and so it took a lot longer for my skin to absorb it. I find that about a dime size on each leg, arm, belly and back is about right.

The Bottom Line: A fabulous natural skin care line that works well on dry and sensitive skin.
