DSC_0545Have you ever been in a store, turn your head for 5 seconds and suddenly realize your toddler is gone?  I can’t even tell you how many times this has happened, or the gut wrenching feeling I get when it happens.  I swear my boys are stealth and trained escape artists.  Good Karma Squeakers have been an awesome solution for this problem.  Good Karma Squeakers are shoes for toddlers that have a squeaker in the heel of the shoe.  Every time your child takes a step, you hear a squeak.

About the Company:
Good Karma Squeakers is a small family business based in the Seattle area.  We discovered squeaky shoes during the adoption of our youngest daughter from China.  Good Karma Squeakers was founded on the idea of “giving back”.  We donate a portion of our proceeds to The Half the Sky Foundation.  Half the Sky is a non-profit organization that funds orphanages in China.

Pros: We received a pair of the Boys Leather Fisherman squeaky sandal in black. The packaging was really cute and I was immediately impressed with these shoes.

These sandals are genuine leather which is really nice and soft.  After wearing them for the last month, they have stayed in the most awesome condition.  The sole on these shoes are nice and thick, but very flexible.  I don’t think I’ve reviewed a children’s shoe that has had such generous flexibility.
Rowan’s reaction the first time he put on the shoes was priceless. He wouldn’t stop smiling and running around. Needless to say, he LOVES his little squeaker shoes, and gets frustrated when we put another pair of shoes on him that don’t squeak.

Chandler actually nicknamed Rowan “squeaky monkey” a few months back as Rowan is really loud and screams a lot. Not sure why the monkey part. When Chan saw Rowan’s shoes he said;
“Mom, Rowan really IS a squeaky monkey now!” I thought that was pretty cute.

These shoes are perfect for the store, and I always know where Rowan is at all times. We were walking an outdoor mall just last week and I we must have passed 30+ people that made comments on how cute his shoes were, or just got a big grin on their face.

The fisherman sandals have a velcro closure and really stay on Row’s feet. He likes to take his shoes off, and these are hard for him to get off, which is REALLY nice for me. You know how you can be in a store and suddenly realize your child’s shoe is gone because they’ve taken it off? We haven’t had this problem at all.

Good Karma squeakers are competitively priced with prices ranging from $14.99 – $24.99. If you compare the quality of the shoes with the price, it’s such a steal. They are also available in sizes 3-12 which means I could actually get a pair for Chandler too, who is almost 4 and wearing a size 10.

A portion of all profits are donated to Half the Sky Foundation. So not only are you getting a wonderful pair of shoes, you are helping to donate to an awesome cause.

Cons:
My biggest Con about these shoes turned out to not be a Con at all. I like how dressy these shoes are and wanted Rowan to wear them to church but figured the squeaker would be distracting. I ran into a friend this past week that has a pair of Good Karma Squeakers for her little girl. She told me you can take the squeakers out of the shoe! It makes sense when you look at the shoe, and it’s very easy to take in and out. I think it would be nice for consumers to know before they purchase a pair of shoes as I couldn’t find this information on the website.  As you can see below, the squeaker is on the side of the shoe, and you can easily take it out.

We’ve also had a bit of fraying of the threading in the shoes. (You can see it a bit in the picture posted above.) Loose threads can be easily clipped and I don’t feel this detracts from the overall quality of the shoes.

The Bottom Line: A fun quality line of toddler and children’s shoes, complete with squeaker.
