Caked Food and Water Spots, Yuck!
Dishwasher & Disposal Woes
When we moved into our house last winter, the disposal wasn’t working and frankly it was NOT clean. This was just one of many parts of the house that was not taken care of. The entire house was dirty. We are talking about black showers, smelly carpet (I’m guessing from an animal), etc. I was appalled at the fact that it was only about 6 years old and treated that badly. Because the disposal wasn’t working, the sink didn’t always drain properly and I had to dig out all of the crud which was not pleasant.
Our dishwasher has also been horrible. You open it up after it’s run a cycle and the dishes have terrible water spots along with tons of caked food. I was embarassed to let anyone drink out of our glasses. I finally had a friend tell me about Lemi Shine which is an AWESOME product for hard water spots, however it was one more thing that we had to buy.
A few weeks ago, we finally bought a new disposal. When my husband took the old one out, it smelled like a dead cow. I kid you not, it was terrible. I ran out of Lemi Shine a few days later and hadn’t run to the store to get some. I ran the dishwasher without it and to my surprise, my glasses came out sparkly clean! It’s been doing a great job cleaning ever since without the Lemi Shine. I’m assuming since the disposal was broken that it was backing up food and causing the dishes to stay dirty.
So, a couple tips if you have problems with water spots and food in your dishwasher.
1. Try Lemishine – I usually buy it at Walmart or Target, it’s with the other dishwashing detergents.
2. Make sure your disposal is working properly!
