Cuisinart Cleanwater Review

Submitted by admin on October 28, 2009 – 11:28 am6 Comments

Clean Drinking Water
Clean, great tasting water is just a button away with the Cuisinart Cleanwater Filtration System. Growing up, we always had great tasting well water. When I moved to a more populated area about a year and a half ago, I could taste a huge difference in the drinking water and couldn’t stand to drink it straight from the tap. I started buying bottled water on a regular basis, but with 4 people in our household, this gets expensive. So when the Cuisinart Cleanwater made its way to our home, I was more than thrilled.

Pros: Straight out of the box, it is only 2 pieces, plus the filter, so assembly couldn’t get any simpler. You soak the filter for approximately 15 minutes in a separate bowl of water and then pop into the top of your filtration system.

This filtration system is countertop friendly. It is compact enough that it fits perfectly underneath our cupboards but is able to hold 2 gallons. The large flap lid on the top makes it easy and convenient to add water and you can see it purifying right away.
Chemicals and contaminants that it reduces:

  • Chlorine
  • Mercury
  • Benzene
  • Cadmium
  • Copper
  • Tetrachloroethylene
  • Toluene

This system gives you three options for the temperature of water: room temperature, cold, and hot. I can’t believe how well it heats the water, and we’ve been using it a lot for hot chocolate as the weather gets cooler. You are able to see when your hot or cold water is ready by looking at the LED lights on the front. If the light is illuminated, your water has reached its temperature. One thing I like about the hot water spigot is that it has a child safety feature. The right side of the button has a portion you have to slide up before you push the button in to get hot water. This is nice and very important to me as I have two small children that tend to get into things.cuisinart-water-filtration2

Save Money
I wanted to figure out how much money a filtration system would save me versus buying bottled water like we usually do. I figure we probably spend around $5 a week on a 24 pack of bottled water.
Weekly Cost – $5
Montly Cost – $20
Yearly Cost - $240

The Cuisinart Cleanwater Filtration Sytem sells for $150. After shopping around, I found the filters for around $15 a piece which averages around 3-4 months or 80 gallons.
One Time Cost - $150
3 filters per year - $45
First Year - $195

It’s easy to see that you save $55 that first year and almost $200 every year after that. It also means you are doing your part to help the environment buy cutting out bottled water. The system also has a 3 year warranty.

Cons: When you plug the system in and it starts cooling or heating water, it has a fan sound that is a bit loud. This kicks off after the cold or hot water is ready, but once you fill your glass, it kicks back on. At times when we didn’t need hot or cold water, we simply turned it off and drank room temperature water.
The flow of the water isn’t very fast either. It takes about 15 seconds to fill a 6 oz glass, and seems to fill even slower when the water level in the tank gets low.
It also takes a while for it to heat water, about a half hour, so it is hard to be patient with it sometimes.

Price: $149

Looks good. I wonder what the cartridge refills cost? I think that would be important to me. We have a tap filter and a hot water pot on the counter, so it would be nice to combine them. I will definitely tell my husband about it.
