Kikkoman Thanksgiving Turkey Brine + Giveaway (closed)

Kikkoman Soy Sauce.JPGHoliday Turkey
Can you believe that Thanksgiving is this week? I’m definitely excited because we are headed out of state to spend it with family. We’ve never actually prepared a turkey for our little family, and the only other time I’ve cooked a turkey was Thanksgiving when I was 15. My mom just had surgery so I was put in charge of the the turkey. I can’t really recall how it turned out, but it must not have been too bad if I couldn’t remember it.  Not being too experienced in turkey cooking, it was fun to find out that Kikkoman actually has a great recipe for turkeys.

Kikkoman Savory Turkey Brine
Kikkoman sent us a Pre-Thanksgiving package with an awesome Turkey Brine recipe to try out. After picking out a turkey, I looked at the recipe and it seemed easy enough. We wanted to eat it for Sunday dinner today but I had to work all night last night. Luckily my awesome hubby said he would put the brine together for the Turkey to marinate over night.
I really wasn’t feeling well at all this morning, but I peeled myself out of bed at about 10 to put the Turkey in the oven. Here it is before I rinsed it and got it into the oven.

Then it was back to sleep to try to sleep off a headache. When I woke up, hubby was pulling this beautiful masterpiece out of the oven. The smell in our home was incredible and it looked delicious.

My husband started raving about the flavor of the skin and how moist and wonderful the turkey was. He wasn’t joking. It was incredible. I’m sure you want the recipe, so for inquiring minds, here it is:

Savory Turkey Brine

  • 2 gallons cold water
  • 10 ounces Kikkoman Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce
  • 1/2 cup kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried sage
  • 2 tablespoons dried celery seed
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme

The night before roasting, remove giblets and turkey neck; rinse turkey inside and out. In a large stockpot, or 5 gallon bucket, mix water with remaining ingredients. Stir well until all salt is dissolved. Place turkey in pot, cover with a lid and refrigerate overnight, or at least 8 hours. Remove turkey from brine, rinse well. Follow your regular cooking instructions.

Kikkoman also sent us some great ideas to use for leftovers. This is definitely nice as our little family didn’t even put a dent in that turkey it seemed. There is a recipe for fried rice that I am excited to try.kikkoman3
