Tag Jr.
We reviewed the Tag reading system by Leapfrog a few weeks back.  Ever since it came in the mail, Rowan has literally been squealing at Chandler because he can’t play with it.  Of course anything that big brother has, he wants as well.  But in all honesty, at 22 months he just isn’t ready for the Tag, right?  That’s where the Tag Jr. comes in.  It’s specifically designed for children ages 2-4 and takes them to a new level when it comes to books.

Pros: The design of the Tag Jr. is perfect for little hands. Rowan is not quite 2 and was able to figure it out quickly after watching mommy do it a couple times. It works much like the tag because it has a little camera that reads pictures and text on the pages. You simply touch the reader to any part of the book and begin interacting.

I love how simple the reader is, button wise. There is one button to turn it on and off and one to control the volume. Rowan can actually turn it on and off by himself. It takes 2 AA batteries which are easy to replace and we’ve found that it actually has a very long battery life. If you leave the tag on for too long, it actually powers off itself, thus saving battery life as well.

The Tag Jr. works with board books. Board books are great for this age range, and you don’t have to worry about your little one ripping pages. Although Chandler prefers the regular Tag, I’ve caught him playing with the Tag Jr. as well.
You can also use Tag books with the Tag Jr. and vice versa. Simply download your software, go to leapfrog connect, and choose what books you want on your Tag Jr.

Cons: As of now, there are 13 books available right now for the Tag Jr. I’d love to see them build upon the collection they already have so there is more of a selection.
Other than that, I couldn’t find anything that we disliked about this product. It’s durable, educational, cute, versatile, and well priced. I am consistently impressed with Leapfrog products.
