Childproofing Help!
After years of little boys getting into things, I’d thought I’d started to have a child proof house. Just when I begin to think that it’s child proof, something happens or someone gets hurt and it’s back to the drawing board.
Chan is in a twin sized bed right now. His bedding set doesn’t have a bed skirt, so the corner of the bedframe looks like the picture below. The edge is pretty sharp but it doesn’t really stick out so I hadn’t thought about proofing it before.
The other night, we got the boys out of the tub and I proceeded to get them dressed. When Chan was only in his underwear, he started jumping around. He slipped and fell, his little bum making contact with the corner of the bedframe. He immediately started crying and I noticed a huge tear in his underwear and a huge gash on his bottom. Nothing that some TLC, medicine, and a couple Elmo band aids couldn’t fix, but it is a nice sized cut a bled quite a bit. Now here’s the part where I need help. How do I go about child proofing it so that someone doesn’t get hurt on it again? It might never happen again, but I don’t want to chance it. Is there some sort of fix that I don’t know about? Any ideas?

Duct tape fixes everything!

I’m pretty sure they make a little plastic cover that goes over that area. I seem to remember us having them before…I’m not sure if it came with the frame or if we bought them.

I agree with what everyone else said, foam or pipe insulation, that’s what we would do. Maybe secure it with super glue or something.
I feel like there’s always something that they can get hurt on!!

I was thinking of the phone corner thingies they make for furniture. Maybe that would work? You could also maybe put a fitted sheet over it to hold it on. Not sure if that would work but maybe? Have a great day girl!

Oh, great idea. I like the idea of putting the fitted sheet over it to protect it as well. Thanks Shannon!

Poor Chan! I think that the foam idea is great & the bedskirt will hide it. Be sure to iron the bedskirt first. I made the mistake of not ironing one after opening the package, I threw it on the bed and got a few comments from family on it. Now I’ll at least throw the thing in the dryer before putting it on my bed!

Jennifer, the bedskirt thing is totally something I would do. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve ironed in my life, lol

Call your mom. She is great when it comes to things like that.
Check your thrift shops as well for bed skirts or Craigslist or KSL… whatever it is called. Ebay?

Also, wanted to add that you could use pipe insulation – that grey stuff that is split down the side and you put on the outside of a pipe to insulate it. You can usually find that at any home improvement store. But chances are, you probably had something just kicking around your house!

I will have to look for this. Thanks!

A bedskirt to match the bed spread? Just go with a solid color that would match one of the colors in the bed spread.

take a bit of foam and wrap it around that edge. Or a cheap kitchen sponge that you wrap around the edge and secure with some duct tape. Then get a bed skirt to cover it up.

Foam! That’s an awesome idea. I wish I could find a bedskirt to match though…
