Jamie’s Food Revolution
I really hadn’t heard too much about Jamie’s Food Revolution until my sister in law brought it up when she was over for dinner. After hearing her talk about it, I decided to check it out for myself. I haven’t actually watched the show yet, but it is set to record on my dvr on Friday, and I did some reading on what it’s all about. The concept behind the show is all about eating right and how families can rediscover ways to cook simple, affordable meals that are good for them. Jamie has a petition that you can sign for the food revolution, and I just signed it. You should too!
Disney Family
Disney Family has partnered with Jamie Oliver and the Food Revolution. Disney Family has recently added a new website that offers simple steps to Healthy Families. Some of these steps include developing healthy habits, cooking with your kids, and making snacks from scratch.
They offer a lot of really great advice, along with some fab recipes that I am excited to try out. Below is just one of many recipes that they offer on their website.
Sizzled Citrus Shrimp
This quick Spanish-inspired saute is a lesson in simplicity. All shrimp really needs to dazzle is lots of garlic and a splash of lemon. Serve as a main dish or as a tapa (appetizer).

Prep Time: 15 minutes (including peeling shrimp)
Ready in: 40 minutes
Yield: 4 servings, about 3/4 cup each
Recipe Ingredients
3 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons dry white wine
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic , minced
1 pound medium shrimp (30-40 per pound), peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt , or to taste
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Recipe Directions
1. Combine lemon juice, wine, 2 teaspoons oil and garlic in a medium bowl. Add shrimp and toss to coat. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, tossing occasionally. Drain well, reserving marinade.
2. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add shrimp and cook, turning once, until barely pink, about 30 seconds per side; transfer to a plate. Add bay leaf, crushed red pepper and the reserved marinade to the pan; simmer for 4 minutes. Return the shrimp and any accumulated juices to the pan; heat through. Season with salt, sprinkle with parsley and serve immediately.
Win It

I really like this show. I feel bad for the guy! We do smoothies a lot or else eat fruit leathers vs. fruit snacks.

We decided to plant our own organic vegetable and herb garden this summer.
I loved watching Jamie on TV and I think what he is doing is really special. I would love to eat healthier and learn more about the recipes.
Thanks!
Melissa
I’m on a diet and trying to eat more healthy foods, such as lots of fruits and veggies. Thanks for having the contest!

I do the shopping so I allow whatever they eat by what I purchase. We are off diet soda, I cook from scratch and try to use all organic fruits and veggies. I look at all ingredients on breads or any cereals , things like that, and we have our own chickens and only eat their eggs. We are growing a garden.

I’ve gotten a couple of stainless steel water bottles, and fill them up each morning, and they are gone by the evening, so I am getting the 8 cups of water a day that is suggested.
Thanks for the giveaway!

our family has given up soda, I don’t even miss it.
A recent positive lifestyle change I have made is eliminating soda from my grocery list and replacing it with bottled water.

Since I had Colon Cancer, I now choose the fat free or very low in fat foods. I found that if cook right, it is very good. Now my family also enjoys fruit and vegetables that we always have.
I don’t have a family, but I love to eat the veggies I grow in my own garden. Thanks.
We make a point of not having those past (must have junk foods) in the house any longer. We purchase healthier snacks and I have them washed and ready in small containers for those “I’m hungry” snacks.
I stopped eating processed junk and try to cook my meals from scratch, since I know what’s going into my body when I make it.

We’ve switched off much of our diary and now opt for soy or almond milk. Also I’ve been putting veggies out while I make food. My son will snack on them but hates to eat them off his plate at dinner.

I started drinking more water & eating smaller portions. It’s working, I’m losing weight.
The biggest lifestyle change I’ve made is to start walking daily. I’ve only been doing it a couple of weeks but am already seeing some good from it.

I really make an effort to include a fruit and vegetable with each meal and show her foods in their raw forms. I also try never to assume that my daughter won’t like something new.

We’ve taught our daughter to read sodium and sugar content on labels, and what level is OK. She loves being in charge of it during shopping!

We recently switched to soy milk and have banned drive thru food. Not necessarily fast food. Just the drive through, because if I don’t do drive thru I don’t usually go inside so its much healthier.
My family doesn’t have a choice… they eat what I cook for them and they’ll like it. Or else!
A positive change we have made is eating less processed foods. debsweeps4@yahoo.com

I recently joined Weight Watchers again and I’m now buying healthy snacks instead of cookies and cakes just so I’m not tempted anymore. The kids seem to enjoy the change..more fruit and cereal bars. We’re also trying to watch our money so we’ve decided no more eating fast food or buying take-out; we’re saving money and eating better by cooking at home.
I have started filling my cabinets with healthier food so when the kids reach for the snack the normal junk isn’t there.
