Recycling
How are you at recycling? I used to be horrible at it, but I’m starting to make little changes, and little changes add up. A few months ago, we got a recycling bin close to our house. It is for all paper products. I thought it would be a great start and had a little trash can that I would put my paper in. This little trash can filled up quite quickly, and I found myself emptying it all too often. This was my first little change.
The next change that I’m looking forward to implementing is recycling when we host guests. It’s fun to get together for barbecues, game nights, and so on, but I find that we make a lot of trash even if we only invite a few friends. Flings Recycling Bins are a great way to help you make those steps towards recycling everyday as well as when you host parties.
So what exactly are Flings? They are portable pop up bins that have a 13 gallon capacity, and definitely help with recycling.
Pros: The concept behind this product is fabulous. We should all be a little more earth friendly and conscious about recycling, right? We received a fling in the recycling pattern. I like how the product pops up, and I use it for my paper products instead of my little trash can now.
Flings have a drawstring on the top so when you are ready to get rid/recycle what’s in it, it’s easy. I’ve been using mine over and over and it’s actually held up quite well. Since it has a 13 gallon capacity, I only have take it out a couple times a week.
Flings come in 5 different cute designs, which accommodate any occasion. They are quite strong and are leak proof.
Cons: I wish these were a bit more durable, or that they had a recycling bin that was a bit more durable that you could use over and over. I also think the price point may be a con for some. At $4 a piece, it’s a bit of an investment for a bin that might only be used once during a party, or special occasion.

I have recycled longer than I can remember. My grandson, who just turned 3, also recycles. We discuss which container he should use for each piece of trash that he throws away. His favorite day of the week is Monday because that is trash day! For his third birthday we had a trash themed party.

We recycle almost everything most of the time. We falter a little on paper and newspapers because they pile up fast. We’d recycle more if we had curbside service and if facilities existed for more plastics recycling beyond #1 and #2 containers.

I was a casual recycler until our community started a mandatory recycle program – our trash container was traded with on that was VERY small and we were given a recycle bin. Now I recycle EVERY possible thing and am glad I do it.

Like you said, I’m just getting into it. I didn’t do it a lot before since I didn’t know where to take it. We have the paper bin by our home now, and that’s been great. The kids think it’s fun to take out the recycling. I’m now trying to get into recycling plastic bottles. IMO, the water here is gross so we buy bottled water and go through it very quickly. It really stacks up when you set the used bottles aside for recycling. Anyway. This is a tangent you didn’t ask for, but there you go.

I live in an apartment and all the other apartments have recycling bins except ours. I recycle, and save up a bag full and then sneak it into another apartment’s bin

Yes!! We are big on recycling here in Oregon and do co-mingling recycling. My recycling bin is twice the size of my garbage can. I am trying to get better about repurposing items as well.
The Fling is something that would be convenient when hosting an event or collecting recycling in a central location in your house before taking it out to the main bin. As it is, our items sit on the counter and I take them out to our recycling bin several times a day.
