Bumbleride Flite Lightweight Stroller Review
Bumbleride Flite
We aren’t a stranger to Bumbleride, and after using the Indie Twin for the last 10 months, I’ve been continually impressed with the quality of the stroller it is. So when I heard that they came out with a new lightweight stroller, the Flite, my curiosity peaked.
I love using our bigger stroller, but we aren’t always able to take it with us, especially if we go out of town and have luggage and other things we have to haul. Plus, Chandler is getting to the age where he likes to walk more and doesn’t tire as easily as Rowan. So it’s nice to have something lightweight that we can take on the go, and doesn’t take up a lot of space.
Pros: There are a lot of lightweight strollers out there. In fact, this is our 3rd. While I appreciate the light frame and compact size of them, it seems like you give up a lot of good features when you are using one. Right out of the box, here’s what the Flite looked like:
It took me all of 10 minutes to put it together and the instructions were very user friendly. As soon as we got it together, we went out for a walk. I noticed how easy it is to open up as well as fold back down. Then I got really excited as I realized just how many features this little stroller has.
The seat of the stroller features a 5 point safety harness and a nice amount of padding. From watching Rowan sit in it, it seems comfortable, and it has a full recline for when you child is sleeping. The seat also has an optional infant head rest, shoulder pads, and a pad that covers the bottom part of the harness. There is a zip off canopy, and the canopy does a great job covering. It’s also not flimsy and does not lose it’s shape when you fold it up. I’ve found that with other lightweight strollers, that they lose the shape of the canopy and it tends to peak up when you use it after it being folded.
The top has the peek-a-boo window like other bumbleride strollers which lets you look in on your child, however there’s a bit of a change to it. It now has uv protection which is cool, but I’m a bit torn about it in it’s entirety. You can read about that in the cons section. The handles have nice cushion, love the curve, and are great for taller couples like my husband and me. The back part of the stroller has a pocket for storing and there’s a cargo basket underneath for storage.
There’s also a multi adjust foot rest with a nice improvement. If you notice in the middle picture below, there is a tab on the front that I’m pushing in that moves the foot rest. In the Indie Twin, it is located on the bottom of the circular part. To this day, I’m sometimes pinching my fingers in it, so I loved this in the Flite.
The wheels rotate nicely in the front, each side in the back has a break, and it has suspension which makes for a smoother ride.
If you aren’t impressed by the features yet, wait until you hear about some of the accessories. Cup holder, rain guard, carrying strap, head rest, shoulder pads, and infant seat adapter bar. I love that you can use this stroller with an infant seat! I’m sold right there. With both the boys I had a big travel system, and the stroller took up SO much space. When we decide to have another baby, I’m thinking this will be the only stroller that we need. The Flite can hold up to 50 lbs, and is plenty big for Rowan at 2 1/2. Chandler is about 40 lbs at 4 1/2, so he could even ride in this stroller if he wanted to for another year or so.
Cons: Since this is a new stroller and I’m sure Bumbleride is testing the waters with it, I think there are areas for improvement. In the picture below, you see two big bars with an x in the middle. This part folds up with the stroller and then looks like this when the stroller is in use. It makes it hard to access the cargo basket from the back, and I notice having to shove things in, or go around the front to put them in. I’d like to see this modified a bit in the future so that there is easier access.
I mentioned above about the new UV mesh in the peek-a-boo window. While I like that it protects my child, I feel like it defeats the purpose a bit of a window. When the sun is shining down on it, it’s really hard to even see your child. It’s nice that it lets some cool air down in, but unless I am walking in the shade, I don’t have a very good view of Rowan.
I feel like there are a few things that I haven’t touched on, this little stroller has SO many capabilities. To see features, watch my hands on video below:
