Stuffing
Want to know a secret? I’ve never made stuffing before. Truth be told, I don’t really like stuffing if it’s straight from a box and there’s not a lot of thought put into it. Maybe that’s why I’ve never made it. However, after trying a few different types of stuffing, which consist of my moms and mother-in-law’s, I can tell you my favorite would have celery and sausage. Stuffing isn’t stuffing without sausage. And because I’ve never made it, what better time to learn to make the kind that I like besides now?
Sausage Stuffing Recipe
I found a couple recipes online, and then tweaked it to what I thought sounded good.
Ingredients:
2 packages melba toast stuffing (12 oz)
2 cans Swanson Chicken Broth
1/2 C. Butter (melted)
Celery, chopped
1 Onion, chopped
1 lb Pork Sausage
Salt & Pepper to season
Brown pork sausage, chopped onions, and celery in fry pan until sausage is browned. In a mixing bowl, add the sausage mix, melba toast stuffing, 2 cans of chicken broth, and 1/2 cup of melted butter. Mix well, and spoon into a greased casserole pan. Cook at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
Because this recipe made such a big casserole dish, this was about all we ate for dinner last night. That’s ok too, because it was de-lish! I really liked this recipe.
The Great Debate
The great stuffing debate this Thanksgiving is what kind of stuffing you like and prefer. Swanson’s wants to know if you prefer meat or veggies? Do you put weird things (I call them weird) in your stuffing like apples and cranberries? Or do you keep it to to meat or veggies. No doubt that when there is a debate, there will be conflict! I ahve to have stuffing white chunck of white chicken in it or turkey. I also put celery, green onionds. I make it with chicken broth & just 1 spoon of butter.
Sometimes I also add herbs.
I like sausage, peppers and onions.
