HX2 Heelys Shoes
On multiple occasions, I’ve seen kids rolling around on Heelys. My nieces have the shoes and they make it look so fun and easy. So when the opportunity came to try them out for my son and me, I definitely jumped on it!
About Heelys from their website:
Heelys are the two-in-one shoe that lets you take life at your own pace. With the wheels out, the stylish designs perform and look just like any other shoe. When you easily put the wheels in, you roll at a different speed. Heelys are about exploring your freedom, unleashing the fun and empowering you to be fearless.
I learned very quickly that there’s an art to Heelys. Chandler and I were trying to roll around the kitchen and watched tutorial videos on many occasions. I ended up straining my groin muscle trying to stay up, it’s definitely not as easy as it looks! My son who is 5 has the HX2 shoes which means that there are 2 heels in the front and back of each other instead of just the one traditional heel that the shoes normally have. I think this is great idea for those learning, as it helps with stability and balancing. Once your child has mastered the 2 wheels, you can actually take the front one out so that the shoe is like a traditional Heely.
Chan has had his shoes for over a month now, and still hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it, and he has some nice bruises to show from it. I think if he were 6-8 months older, it would probably be better. I do like that we can take the wheels out of the shoe and he can use them for everyday wear to school.
The HX2 retails for around $60, which is more than I would usually spend on a shoe for Chandler, but it’s definitely a specialty shoe with the wheels, so I think it is priced about right. Overall, it’s a fun shoe that would be great for kids that are 6 or so. My nieces have been a bit older like 8 or 9 when they’ve gotten their Heelys and they’ve mastered the art quickly!
