World Book Day is March 1st
My oldest is in kindergarten this year and is learning to read. He does really well and can read small books by himself. We spent at least 20 minutes each night reading to him or having him read books to us. Reading before bedtime is something we have done since he was just a couple of years old. It helps calm him, keep him in a routine, and he’s learning to read. We do the same thing with younger brother that is in preschool right now. Yesterday, my husband was reading with our Kindergartner, and I snapped this picture of the two of them. Not only does reading empower, it creates lasting memories. I hope that our boys have fond memories as they grow older of us reading with them when they were little.
Reading is something you will take with you your entire life, so I’m excited to tell you about World Book Day, which is March 1st. World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, and books in general. I think it’s definitely something important worth celebrating. There are many ways to celebrate, including reading books, dressing up in world book day costumes for kids, crafts and more. There are also these fancy dress ideas that focus on each letter of the alphabet. Kind of fun, right? I know I will be taking some extra time on March 1st to teach my kids more about the importance of books.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for March 1st, and celebrate something that gives us knowledge and power – reading!

My daughter Hannah is 7 and LOVES to read. She brings a ton of books in her backpack each day for free reading at school.

Our school is making a very big deal of this. They decided to promote reading by trying to reach a million pages read. They made it! They will be hosting a big in-school carnival to celebrate!
