Outdoor Spring Activities
With Spring weather here, we’ve been spending more time outdoors.  I’m always looking for fun activities to do with my boys and bubbles are bound to always be a hit.  We recently tried out some of the improved Crayola outdoor colored bubbles.  I was actually a little bit leery at first.  Hubby bought a bottle last year and it made the most horrible mess in the backyard an on our boys.  We decided we wouldn’t ever buy them again.  After hearing that the bubbles had been improved this year with tips on how to play with them for parents, I was hoping that Crayola would redeem themselves.

About Crayola Outdoor Colored Bubbles:
Our Outdoor Colored Bubbles come in 3 vibrant colors—Unmellow Yellow, Purple Pizzazz and Fuchsia—that are bright and bold. And now these amazing colors magically rub off of skin!

While they will leave colorful marks on outdoor surfaces and clothing, they are designed to clean up from most outdoor surfaces and clothing.

Our Experience
A few days ago, it was absolutely beautiful. We packed up a backpack with snacks, water and bubbles and headed off to take a bike ride to the park. Upon arrival to the park, the boys were so excited to get the colored bubbles going. As part of the bubble pack we got, there was a Crayola bubble launcher included. The bubble launcher is a manual bubble blower. You attach bubbles to the bottom, then crank the handle on the side to get bubbles going. The handle can be attached to either the right or left side of launcher which was a great idea. That way it is compatible for left and right handed kids. My boys did have a bit of a hard time getting the launcher to blow bubbles. You have to crank the handle pretty quickly and although it’s not hard to turn, my boys had a hard time turning it fast enough. You also have to keep the launcher upright so that bubbles don’t spill out. It blows some tiny pretty bubbles! I think I would invest in the automatic bubble blower rather than the launcher as I was the one operating the launcher most of the time.

The boys really enjoyed the classic wand bubble blowing and the colors were so pretty. It still was a bit messy and I had packed a package of wet wipes which was a great idea! The boys got some of the bubbles on their skin and I got some on my shirt. It washed right out and the color wiped off their skin easily. Overall, I think the bubbles are much improved from last year, but I still think it’s an activity that needs to be supervised well.

Crayola offers some tips while playing with their bubbles which include:

  • Dress for Mess. Wear washable play clothes and shoes. It’s best to not wear suede, leather or any other material that can’t be washed.
  • Play Outside. An open grassy area is best away from new concrete, decks and porous surfaces like marble. Don’t use at formal events like weddings.
  • Rub skin to remove color.
  • Launder clothes promptly with water and detergent. Repeat washing may be needed.
  • Hose off outdoor surfaces like sidewalks and driveways to wash away color.
