Reflecting on 4 Years, Why Do I Blog?

It’s pretty amazing to realize that in September, Babes and Kids Review will be 4 years old. 4 years old! I’m so proud of that. I look back at where I was when I started and where I’m at today and it’s pretty remarkable. I started blogging in July of 2008. I started a family journal blog, Snedfam. I’ve continued to blog there, but a few months later, I found myself wanting to start another blog. My main reason was to review and share the products I love.  I made a header, and claimed a domain.  Below is the first header Babes and Kids Review ever had.

I started out with my favorite diapers, pacifiers and baby products. I then moved into my home where I live now and met Trisha of Sweet N Sassy Girls. She told me about Momdot, a community of other bloggers that supported each other, shared opportunities and real life. I joined Momdot in March of 2009 and the rest has been history. I began to realize that those brands that I loved worked with bloggers. I also began to develop very real meaningful relationships with those I networked online with. I began to find blogging was a really big outlet for me. As time went on, I started making money, getting to meet other bloggers and PR in real life, and have had some pretty surreal opportunities.  I’ve reviewed some amazing products which I continue to recommend to friends and family.

I blog because I love it. I blog because I get to be my own boss. I blog because I can write what I want, when I want.

Now that you know some of the reasons that I blog, I want to share some goals with you as far as blogging goes.

  • Comment on at least 5 blogs a day. I know how much it means to me when others visit my blog, and I want to make a goal to do the same. I have some bloggers that I admire so much because they are so great at commenting on other people’s blogs. It’s an attainable goal, I can do it!
  • Continue to increase monetization and make more in 2013 than I did in 2012. 2012 has been a pretty big year for me and I know it’s only going to get better.
  • Drive more traffic, increase Facebook following, increase Twitter following.
  • Include more personal posts/experiences

A lot of these areas have been goals I have been wanting to attain for quite some time but I’ve always had to do my blog on the side. Between being in school full time the last 2 years, to working part time to taking care of my kids, husband and home, my blog hasn’t grown in certain areas as much as I have wanted it to.    I’m excited for the future and what it holds for Babes and Kids Review!

What do you love most about blogging and what goals do you have?  If you are a reader, what do you love about the blogs you read?

Some of the giveaways ask for comments on their blogs, and what I notice is that I’ve gotten attached and interested in some of the people & their blogs. I don’t have a computer at home, so I’m somewhat limited b/c I only have a short period of time to be online at the library, and have a long “to do” list, but if I had more time, I’d probably be big big big on blogs!!! Blogging since 2008 and stuck with it – wow, good for you!!! I enjoy the comaradarie!

As a stay at home/work at home mom, i love to read blogs about parenting and kids, and such. It helps me feel more “sane” and of course I love the great and creative ideas and inspiration that I get!

I enjoyed reading over your goals. I try to comment on several blogs a day, but I’m bad at replying to the comments on my own blog. I hope you do post more personal stories, because I always love your posts on your family blog!

Congrats on four years! We too had blogs for the kids starting in 2006 but I didn’t start my blog until February 2009. I can’t believe that I’ve been going for 3 1/2 years either. But ironically our goals are about the same. 🙂

4 years! Yowza! Good for you!

I’ve been blogging for 2. And, I’ve been through the “trap” of accepting EVERY review that comes down the pike (for a variety of reasons) and being overwhelmed and losing sight of why I even blog…so I’ve decided to re-focus and just write, not for numbers or PR people or products or whatever. I don’t need any more “stuff,” I just want to write. That was the idea in the first place, and somehow writing gets lost in the shuffle.

If you have somehow lost focus of your goals or fell out of tune with your inner self, why not write a personal reflection? By writing personal reflections, you can act as your own counselor. When done the right way, you can counsel yourself out of any situation.

Wow, 4 years! You joined MomDot right around the time I started my blog. My blog will be four years old in March of 2013. It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come.

I think you’ve made some attainable goals. I love getting comments and try to comment as much as I can. But sometimes I find myself reading and not leaving comments. I really need to step it up and comment more also.
