Beef, It’s What’s For Dinner
I’m a meat and potatoes type of girl. I grew up in Idaho where it seemed like so many of our meals revolved around meat, specifically beef, and potatoes. To this day I still love meat. I absolutely love a good burger or steak. However, over the years I’ve become very health conscious. I still enjoy meat 3-4 times a week, I’m just smarter about the choices for our family. For example, you won’t find beef in my home that isn’t lean. I look for select cuts of beef that will be lean, and only buy hamburger that is 93% lean or more. That way we are still able to enjoy the meat that we love without as much fat as you would find if you were to eat out. Amazing what you can control when you prepare meals at home, right?

A few weeks ago, we had an end of summer grillance party with some of our friends. We grilled up some extra lean hamburgers with an awesome recipe that we found on the Beef It’s What’s for Dinner website.

I should say that my husband grilled up some burgers.  He’s the master griller. 🙂

The one we chose was burgers with grilled onions. They were really simple and delicious! The beef website also has great information, tips, and recipes for beef.

A classic grilled hamburger recipe with grilled onions.
Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef (Or premade hamburger patties)
  • 1 large sweet onion, cut crosswise into ½-inch thick slices
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns, split, toasted
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
Instructions
  1. Lightly shape ground beef into four ¾-inch thick patties. Brush onion slices with oil
  2. Place patties and onion slices on grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, covered, 11 to 15 minutes (over medium heat on preheated gas grill, 13 to 14 minutes) until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F, turning occasionally. Grill onions, 10 to 12 minutes or until tender, brushing with oil and turning occasionally.
  3. Season burgers and onions with salt and pepper as desired.
  4. Line bottom of each bun with lettuce. Place burgers on top of lettuce. Top with tomatoes and grilled onions. Close bun.

Although the summer is winding down, it’s still pretty nice here. We will definitely be grilling until it snows. I can’t wait to try some of the other recipes on Beef, It’s What’s For Dinner.

What is your favorite type of beef to grill?

I love grilling season and we just took our grill out of the shed and brought it up to the deck. I usually grill about three times a week during the spring/summer months. The hamburger looks amazing, I love everything about it and will be making the recipe.
