Frankenweenine Review
A few nights ago, our family had the opportunity to attend a special local screening of Frankenweenie. I knew a little bit about the film before going, and I knew it was directed by Tim Burton. My boys had also seen trailers of the movie and were interested in seeing it. Before I give you our reaction and impression, here is the synopsis and trailer on Frankenweenie.

Synopsis:

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

Our Experience
Tim Burton’s style of movies are very unique. Any time I have seen one of his movies, I’ve known it was him. I love that he thinks outside of the box and you never know quite what to expect. The entire film is in black and white. I was surprised by this but actually liked it in black and white and thought it really added to the film. The characters were great and I found myself really becoming attached to some of them throughout the movie. There was also a lot of humor incorporated and it kept my attention. My boys really liked the movie, although my six year old said he thought parts of it were scary. I can understand how a younger audience could be scared, there are parts in the climax that are rather thematic. I found it funny that my 4 year old didn’t think it was scary, he just thought it was cool. I was surprised to find myself pretty emotional at a few times, but then again I cry easily. 🙂 Overall, I think it was an interesting and good film. I do feel that if your child gets scared easily, it might not be the best choice to take them to it. Frankenweenie opens in theaters today and we are looking forward to seeing it again!

We were able to attend a special screening in order to facilitate this review. All opinions remain 100% my own.

Am I the only one terrified to watch this movie? I haven’t watched any clips yet but the characters just look like they’d give my kids (and me) nightmares for a month.

Tim Burton at his best! That’s all I can say… Odd sense of humor – creepy characters – and this one was quite scary for little kids. Not sure why he’s popular actually? What I love about Tim Burton is his creativity – it’s off the charts. Too many directors play it safe.
