Safety Tips for New Parents

Becoming a parent is one of most important moments a person can have in their lives. No words can express the joy when your new baby wraps its hands around your fingers or smiles at you for the first time. Even though there are endless amounts of joy which come from being a new parent; it’s not uncommon for parents to feel pressure with new responsibilities that caring for their newborns entail. Apart from ensuring their basic needs are met, parents also have to baby proof their homes to foster a safe environment for the newborns to grow up in.

Safety Tips for Parents

There are several ways to ensure that your house is safe for your little one. Remember, your house may have several sharp corners and edges that might pose a threat. Secure these spots with edge protectors to avoid any potential injuries.

Your laundry area may also pose a threat to your toddler’s safety, so make sure that the laundry basket is properly closed and placed in an area where your child is unable to climb or crawl in.

While in the laundry room, ensure that detergent scoops, spray bottles, soap or liquid detergent bottles are kept in a secure cabinet, far away from your child’s reach. For an added layer of protection, secure cabinets with adjustable multi-purpose straps to keep your babies from opening them and coming into contact with harmful chemicals.

Prams and strollers are essential for taking your baby outdoors for trips or walks. Parents need to be alert and understand the potential hazards that might occur when these transport devices. For example, you should never leave your child unattended and ensure to always supervise children to prevent them from climbing up the side of the stroller or pram, which might cause it to tip over. Another thing to keep in mind is to ensure you are buying quality products which adhere to safety standards.  Trusted manufacturer Dorel  carry some of the world’s most loved brands and quality brands such as Safety 1st, Maxi-Cosi and Quinny.

Additionally, always be mindful of the safety features built into prams or strollers such as brakes, harnesses and tether straps when travelling on slopes, near bodies of water or at railway stations.

After a full day of activities, your child will be yearning for some much needed sleep. You will need to be aware of some practical safety precautions when it comes to putting babies to sleep such as ensuring that the area around their face is uncovered and free from obstructions. Buying a mattress that is firm, clean and in a good condition is also a must. Keep in mind that you should also remove any pillows, soft toys or duvets from the cot or bassinette.

These tips are just scratching the surface when it comes to baby safety but hopefully these tips have got all new parents thinking about practical ways to keep their little ones safe.

Putting those safety straps on cupboards is a really good idea. There are so many things that kids would taste out of curiosity that could be harmful!
