Vtech Safe & Sound Baby Monitor Review
In the last few months, I’ve jumped back into the world of baby monitors. They’ve definitely come a long way in the last 5 years and I’m impressed with the options available. I never had a video baby monitor with either of the boys but after owning one, I would never get one that isn’t video again. It’s nice to be able to hear your baby, but to see your baby around the clock is definitely peace of mind.
Vtech has an awesome new monitor that is available at Walmart.com and is called the VTech Safe & Sound Pan and Tilt Color Video Baby Monitor, model VM333.

The Vtech Safe & Sound Baby Monitor has so many features, yet is simple to use. I had it figured out in about 10 minutes and was surprised at everything it could do. Right out of the box, setup is incredibly easy. It comes with a parent monitor, video camera and 2 adapters that fit the monitor and camera. The pieces are small and light. The handheld monitor fits nicely in my hand and the camera is compact yet well made.

When I started exploring the features of the monitor, I realized that the video camera has to be plugged into the wall at all times to function. At first I thought this would be an inconvenience, but after realizing that the camera can pan 270 degrees and tilt 125 degrees, I realized that it would be able to see anything in the room that I needed it to. Our almost 4 month old daughter still sleeps in our room, but we will be transitioning her to her crib soon. I like that I will be able to see her and then pan and tilt around the entire room as well. It’s easy to do this from the parental control. The camera is also able to zoom in, giving you a closer look at baby. The parental unit has the option of being plugged in, or working on a battery. The battery lasted about 4 hours for me before it needed to be charged again. I feel like some improvement could be made on the battery life, but it’s nice to have the option to plug in or use a battery.

The screen on the parental control is a high resolution 2.8″ and the picture is really pretty good. There is full motion video at 22 frames per second. It’s not high definition by any means, but does what it is meant to do and gives you a good picture of the baby. It also has night vision, which the camera senses when the lights are turned off. The night vision doesn’t disturb baby, but allows you to have a black and white picture of baby at night.

Other features and specs on the monitor include:
Additional Features

  • 1,000 feet of range
  • Temperature sensor
  • Vibrating sound-alert on the parent unit
  • Digital transmission
  • Rechargeable battery with low-battery alert on the parent unit
  • 5-Level sound indicator
  • Data encryption for security
  • Volume control
  • Out of range indicator
