Training for a Marathon After Baby

Before I gave birth to Nova last August, I signed up for a few races. I’m the type of person that does much better getting into shape when I have something to train for. I started running a lot 3 years ago and training for a race when you have a small baby is much different than training when your kids are self sufficient and in school.  She obviously requires around the clock care and it’s hard to get things done when I have this adorable face staring at me all day long.

My training went full throttle in January so I am 2 months in. I’ve been incredibly thankful to have my Precor treadmill, but one can only run so much on a treadmill before going stir crazy. My daughter also happens to be a cat napper and doesn’t sleep much more than 20-30 minutes at a time. Most of the time when I get her down, I run down to the treadmill and only get about 2 miles in before she wakes up again. I’d get up before she woke up in the morning, but there’s many nights that I work until midnight and getting up at 5 or 6 am doesn’t sound too appealing when you go to bed at 1 am. I’ve saved my long runs for weekends when my hubby can watch her, but I needed an alternative to my short runs during the week.

Thankfully, Joovy came to my rescue and sent me the very stylish Joovy Zoom 360. The ride is so smooth! It has innovative features and a well thought out design. I’ll have a more through review coming soon, but it’s exciting to be able to run for longer than 10 minutes and have baby in tow the whole time. It’s definitely a comfortable ride and she’s usually sleeps longer in the stroller than she does in her bed at home. Who would have thought?

I have about 6 weeks until my first race, a half marathon. That will be followed by a full marathon in May and a Ragnar Relay in June. Stay tuned for more on products that I’m using to train for my next marathon!

That’s a cool stroller! As for a marathon… I despise running, so I could never do one, but I admire other people who do. It’s not easy and takes dedication.

I’m not a runner, but if I was, I’d want something that was both safe and secure like the Joovy (I’ve heard so many great things about them!) to take the kiddo along in. GOOD LUCK in your upcoming half and then full marathons!
