I am a brand representative on behalf of Ragú and have been compensated for this post.

Growing up, dinner was the time that we sat down together and talked about our day. We discussed what we did at school, what friends we played with, our toys. You name it, we talked about it. I know that my husband’s family also made an effort to have dinner as a family. I knew that this was a tradition that I wanted carried on when we started our family, over 9 years ago.

Our kids are still quite young, but they know that at dinner we all eat at the table and we talk about things. It’s not exactly easy to get details from a 6 and 8 year old, so we make talking about our day a bit of a game. We know that they probably had recess, reading or lunch at school so the dialogue my go like this:

Dad: “Raise your hand if you had recess today!”

Both boys raise hand

Dad: “Raise your hand if you did a craft at school today.”

Both boys raise a hand and then it’s open for conversation as we talk about their craft they made.

Dad: “Raise your hand if you were kind to someone.”

Both boys raise their hands and then we start to discuss who they were kind to.

Boy: “Raise your hand if you did something interesting today!”

Both dad and I raise our hands.

This simple game of raising our hands gets the boys excited and it gets conversation flowing. Although they may not realize it, we are making memories together and growing closer.
