My boys are 6 and 8. At these ages, they depend heavily on my example, encouragement and involvement to keep them active. I’ve made it a goal to simply play this summer with them. We are only a week into summer, but so far so good. Along with physical activity comes good food choices. Horizon Dairy is a brand that you will always find in our fridge. This summer, Horizon is an official sponsor of the Kids Adventure Games. The games are held in 8 cities and gives kids aged 6-14 a chance to be active and participate in adventure racing. They not only reap from the benefit of physical activity, they learn teamwork and confidence. There are games this weekend in Snowbird, UT which is really close to me. We won’t be participating this year because of prior plans, but I’m really wanting the boys to go do it as a team next summer.
There are so many ways that you can get your kids involved and physically active this summer. If you are a parent or around kids, you know it’s got to be fun. Here is a list of the top 10 ways for us to get in exercise and have fun with our kids.
1. Go swimming or sign them up for swim lessons
2. Take a Hike
3. Make an Obstacle Course inside or Outside
4. Have a water fight or nerf gun battle.
5. Invite some friends over to play night games.
6. Learn a new sport (Tennis, Raquetball, Soccer.)
7. Ride Bikes or Scooters
8. Go Play at the Park and walk there!
9. Go to an indoor trampoline park or bounce house place.
10. Train as a Family for a 5K
That last activity is something that I really want to do. My boys have seen me run marathons, half marathons and more. They always get excited to see my medal. I’d love for them to train with me and have that sense of accomplishment and medal at the end.
