Dream Dinners is providing us with dinners to try out their service! All opinions remain my own.

Grocery Budget
A year or so ago, my husband and I set up a variable checking account. We would have a transfer twice a month of money that would go into this account and it would include our grocery, eating out and household budget. It really is a great idea. However, I have another account that I keep all of my business and blogging income in. My blogging money has always been fun money so we use it to eat out, etc. When taking on the Dream Dinners experiment this summer, I decided to take a step back and see what I really spent on May. The result really surprised me. We ate out more than half of our dinners. That meant that we were eating out on an average of 3 times a week, sometimes 4. I’m not incredibly proud of this, but I’m owning up to it. Our total May eating out bill: $514.66. I also realized that I spent another $645 on groceries. I had no idea that we were spending close to $1100 a month on food, especially when we try to budget around $600. Something has got to change. Eating out is a convenience but it’s not always the healthiest choice and I tend to overeat and make bad decisions while eating out.

I will be taking all of this information to my next Dream Dinners appointment to see how I can change some habits and actually save money using Dream Dinners.

In my last post, I outlined a bit of what Dream Dinners is and I wanted to take you through the process. You start by ordering your meals online at Dream Dinners. You can book an online session to try it out or if you aren’t a newbie, you pick your meals and time when you can put them together. Upon arriving for your session to Dream Dinners, you’ll notice a few different stations where you can put your meals together.

Dream Dinners Setup

All ingredients are in front of you as well as what you are to put in your gallon sized bags. The recipe and portion sizes you put in your meals are in front of you and there are friendly staff all around to help. I put together 6 dinners this day and it took me about 40 minutes from start to finish.

Assembling Dream Dinners

Here is what a bag looks like when you are done assembling. It is double bagged with instructions that go inside on how to prep. The 6 on mine means that it is a 6 serving as Dream Dinners come in a 3 or 6 serving.  Other meals that I made besides the Salsa Verde Steak included:
Firecracker Beef Sliders
French Tarragon Chicken with Redskin Potatoes
Orange Asian Chicken
Campfire Grilled Porkchops with Sweet Potato Fries
Thai Peanut Chicken with Jasmine Rice

Salsa Verde Dream Dinners

We actually made the Steak Salsa Verde for dinner the other night and quite honestly it was one of the best steaks I’ve EVER had. I am totally an A-1 girl. I always have A-1 with my steaks and I didn’t need it because of the Salsa Verde on top. It was THAT good.

Now that you know a little bit about the process, you’ll know that I’m going to be using Dream Dinners to cut down on my budget in August. I am SO excited to see how it can save me money and the meals are just delicious.

What is your grocery budget like? Do you stick to it?
