What I Learned Having a Preemie

My sweet baby Rosie is almost 6 weeks old!  I’m not sure where the time has gone, but it has gone fast.  Her pregnancy and birth was a whirlwind and she made her appearance at 34 weeks.  I was apprehensive about having a preemie.  She is my fifth baby and all of my other babies have been big and full term.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect other than knowing she would have time in the NICU.  I remember the first time I saw her.  She was about 8 hours old and all I wanted to do was hold and snuggle her.  At that time, she had a breathing tube and all I was able to do was to touch her without picking her up.  As a mother, all you ever want to do is comfort and surround your child with love.  The next morning, I was able to hold her for the first time.  Her tube was out and she was doing well without oxygen support.  It was amazing touching her soft skin and smelling her sweet newborn smell.   Even now as I think back to that memory, it’s fresh in my mind and brings back so many emotions for me.

Over the next 5 days, I spent time going back and forth from my hospital room to the NICU.  I had to have an involved surgery which entailed more than a regular c-section and it was painful for me to get up out of bed each time.  It didn’t matter though, I knew I would do anything for my sweet baby.  We anticipated that Rosie would be in the NICU much longer than she was so we were pleasantly surprised when we got to bring her home after 5 days.  She was only 4 lbs 6 oz when she came home. I was apprehensive having a tiny baby that was a preemie but I knew that all she needed was love and care.  I learned that having a preemie wasn’t as different as I thought it would be.  Sure, she’s a lot smaller even at 6 weeks old, but she’s much like my other newborns.  She has the same needs and wants.  She eats, poops and wakes me up every 2 hours at night.  Pretty typical, right?  I’m trying to soak up every moment and give her as much love and comfort as I can.

One aspect of comfort that each of my babies have experienced is Pampers Swaddlers.  I loved them almost 13 years ago with my first son, and I love them today with my 5th and final caboose baby.  They just keep getting better and better as well.  It was our first experience using preemie diapers and I’m so glad that Swaddlers are now softer than ever. The new Heart Quilt™ outer layer is 2x softer than it was before.  It helps pull wetness and mess away from the skin and you can still expect up to 12 hours of protection with swaddlers. Babies are in diapers 24/7, so it’s important to me to choose something that is going to work for my child and also be comfortable.

Not only are Pampers Swaddlers super soft, but we love the new graphics on the diapers.  Rosie is in newborn diapers now and I love the playful colors, animals and objects on her diapers.  They offer awesome protection while helping to surround her with a little bit of extra comfort.

Whether you are a first time mom or fifth time mom, you know you can trust Pampers to swaddle your baby in comfort, softness and protection.
